Bird on a Branch Steel and Glass Sculpture by Chris Szaton

Bird on a Branch Steel and Glass Sculpture by Chris Szaton Bird on a Branch Steel and Glass Sculpture by Chris Szaton Bird on a Branch Steel and Glass Sculpture by Chris Szaton Bird on a Branch Steel and Glass Sculpture by Chris Szaton Bird on a Branch Steel and Glass Sculpture by Chris Szaton
I began sculpting birds in glass in 1998. Driving home one day I spotted a telephone pole that swarmed with starlings. A few crow here and there added to the mix. The first sentence that came to my mind was: A telephone wire social club. Ever since that day, I have been fascinated by the simple and powerful statement made by even a single bird. They are elegant and beautiful creatures that remind me of my fellow humans.
When I sculpt a single bird out of molten glass, nothing is predetermined. There is always a give and take with the glass, somewhat of a conversation is happening. The bird becomes the focus of that conversation, taking on the form of a word or a phrase. From elegance to attitude to comedy, I take cues from the glass, helping me discover the color and pose of each bird. The finished product is always a study in these principals.
(These items are all one of a kind sculptures). Available in a variety of vibrant colors including: Cobalt blue, Yellow, Dark Green, and Ruby. Each bird is a hand crafted original with murini eyes, and is set in a whimsical pose that creates a personal expression. They are mounted on a clear glass stand signed by the artist.
